Miserable BBQ Fest did not deliver...

Post by teknostar »

Not sure what the rest of you thought, but i was pretty disappointed by the 'festival' yesterday. Charging $20 for entry, and then giving you nothing for it was turning people away in droves at the front gate. I would expect that the stall holders will think twice about turning up again. The only stall that looked busy was Smokin Barrys. Their food was not great either.

I could not see most of the advertised things happening, no BBQ cook offs, pit masters, no eating competitions, no roaming performers.

There was a good selection of craft beers represented, but apart from that, a bit of a rip off.

IMO next year, charge $5 entry and try to get four times as many people through the gates.

Miserable BBQ Fest did not deliver...

Could it have been better? Yes. I have to agree on the entry fee, it was a bit much But I thought the food and beer was great, smokin Barry's ribs were amazing to me and all my friends. Like Andy from grillpro said to me there wasn't even one single gas bbq there which was a shame cause even though its gas its still a bbq and I didn't really see any weber kettles out for the masses to see how they go with a pulled pork or brisket. It was a first for Melbourne so I'm sure some changes will be made for the future of this event. Would I have still gone knowing what it's like? HELL YES! I love bbq and beer and it was more bbq than I've had a chance to see in one spot at a time. People were great especially the guys from the hark stand and all the accessories you could get were cool. I picked up some hot sauces a ss injector and a redheads bag. Overall I had a great time but I do agree there needs to be a bit more for a entry fee of $20 or they need to drop the price a bit.

Perhaps not the most constructive title to this post

Had a few mates go through and the feedback was pretty positive.

Craft beer vendors are some of the best in the state, heaps of food vendors, great music...

There was a Weber Q display, its the same shop I actually bought by Q320 from, they were helpful with some questions I had.

There was no gate price in Adelaide, but Adelaide looked way smaller than Melbourne has.

Still got to remember that it's the second festival and the organisers are still learning the best ways to do things, so hopefully improvements will be made.

We went. My daughter thought it would make sense to combine one of the local music festivals...we went to Red Hill Country Music and it was a little bit busier that the BBQ. Would've been a great combination. or a motorsport event, hot sauce and fiery foods festival, craft beer (they are probably too big already?)

We really enjoyed it, but it was expensive. $18 for 4 ribs that were only ok. Brisket from the big trailer smoker son the left as you went it was great!

$20 is too much, but i understand they have costs too. Need to make it more attractive to stall holders...no weber stall?!?! More comps with more prizes! Encourage noob bbqers who wouldn't normally compete.

Needs a venue with some shade.

Watch Chris carve up a brisket which was awesome!!!

Was too expensive for me to go, That's money I could put towards meat for the BBQ.

Would have liked to go though, might have if the ticket price was less.

When mum, dad and two kids are trying to spend the weekend together, it's difficult to justify $20 per head for a family outing. It means many dads don't get to go to something like this because once you are in, you still have to drop a big bundle of money on feeding everyone and the kids are bored in an hour or so.

The system used at the Willoughby Craft Beer Fair worked really well. Admission was free to everyone and whoever was interested could buy a sheet of coupons. I can't quite recall what it was, but something along the lines of 10 points for $10. Then each stall would exchange a coupon for a sample of their wares. The stalls didn't have to handle cash, which also meant that things were moving along pretty quickly - they needed to with more than a thousand people attending. I'm not suggesting that the same system would work for the BBQ fest, but it's worth considering some strategy to lower the initial cost of getting people through the gate.

We have the annual chilli festival in Fremantle coming up next weekend and that costs $15 to get in and they get thousands of people over the two days. $20 seems reasonable to me.

I went on Saturday, saw the mav pt100...dident have the cash on me so I came back that night at 9pm, it was spose to close at 10 but the stall was empty, everyone was drinking ect. Fair enough. So I come back first thing Sunday morning, explain to the lady at the gate I just want to duck in and by a thermometer...and I still have a wrist band from day before. I'm then told that sounds suss....and am allowed entry aslong as I was escorted in by the younger lady.... She walks me in and kept questioning me about the stall and why im there as she insisted my story dident sound right??..so we get to the stall and in conversation with the Bradley store owners about the mav and this lady tells him to hurry up as I need to be escorted back out to make sure I leave.

- BBQ cook offs: No
- pit masters: No
- eating competitions: No
- roaming performers: No

I was only there from 2:30 to 4:30 yesterday arvo and didn't see any of the above other than a magician packing up. I would've considered this to have been peak hour and would've thought everything would be happening at this time.

Oh dear, Seems a shamozel
I would never pay to get in to look at products for sale , Not for anything ever.
Unless I wanted something and I knew I would get a price that justifies the entry.
Twenty bucks is outragous for the average person interested in buying a new bbq. Why should they pay when they can just visit a shop or get on the net?
Im also astounded that people paid to get in but was not privy to the demonstrations by Chris and Andy?? That is just nuts
Having a club mentality like that is one way to piss off the masses I tell you.

I cant beleive im hearing this? There must of been some value in $80 for a family of four?
