Jamaican pimento wood for smoking

Post by antzman »

hi guys,

does anyone know where to get pimento wood chips / leaves / compressed bricks for using on a charcoal bbq, to smoke jerk chicken etc...
I've had a look around on the internet but cannot seem to find a website or information relating to Australia.

I can get pimento berries in AUS at harris farms, which i might try soaking then burning, but was quite keen to get my mits on the wood/compressed bricks.

I know of several places to get it overseas, but I'm a little unsure on how customs will be in passing it through..

Any help would be great,

thanks,
lockyer

Hi antzman

Welcome to the forum :D
I find it hard enough getting apple or cherry chunks  and you want a Jamaican Pimento, I have never heard of it so I learnt something new, thanks.
I'm not 100% sure but if the wood has been processed and is commercially sealed and produced you MAY be able to bring it in. You might want to send an email to the suppliers overseas and ask have they sent it to Oz before and have there been any issues ??

Good luck with your hunt

Cheers L
