Cheers. I ran a seasoning session through it last night and practiced maintaining temps for a few hours. I used Myall wood I have been gathering from around near iron knob. It ran great. Tonight I'm smoking up chicken pieces for dinner. I plan on starting a new cook thread. Will bung up some pics there.

Intriguing Dez, you are in the Adelaide Hills but get up to Iron Knob. I have family in the Hills, up around Crafers, and we all of us have lived in Port Augusta so we know whereof you are speaking

My youngest bro is still in the Port and is a gun welder, I THINK he built something similar a few years back.

I must let him know there's good fuel to be found not too far away

Yeah. I live in Chandlers Hill. Work at Iron Knob mine. The local Whyallians put me onto the Myall tree. They use it to smoke fish. I've been collecting branches on the side of the road for a while now.

Memory says the kid bro used to do some scavenging of a similar type out along the old Whyalla Road from Port Augusta, the one that is in an advanced state of decay but does give access to the shacks, where he has a place, and used to to the El Alamein Army camp but I'd imagine there is a cut through from the "new" road by now

There's some good foraging woods all around that area if you look, why pay when you can pick it up ?

Yeah. There's heaps of it out that way. It's against the law to cut it down, alive or dead. Apparently it can appear dead for years then spring back to life. The big ones are hundreds of years old. It requires a tungsten chain on the chainsaw too, very hard wood. Burns very hot. This will be my first time using it with food, so if its any good I'll continue collecting it.

Yep, not that it is very much enforced but the locals are pretty eco-minded and in all honesty you don't need to cut, there's plenty on the ground.
