Unfortunately things have slowed down a bit. I've had a busy week and haven't had the time I needed to getting more done. Now that the big bits are done, the small bits are just as time consuming, but less impressive. Haha
Bought myself a sheet of expanded metal for the grates and shelves. 1.2 x 2.4 $90. A bit more than I required. But I'm sure I'll find a use for it. (Next build perhaps...) I had priced up using standard bbq grills from various hardware and bbq outlets. But forund it to work out cheaper to just buy a sheet and make em.

Then I used an off cut form my end caps and shaped it into a shark fin.

I then fitted the curved flat bar to the inside lip.

Thing still looks like a walker from star wars. Wished the wheels I bought were bigger. Just seeing how they look. I'm thinking this thing is too tall. Probably going to bring her down a few hundred mils.

Btw. I loved those walker pics! The second one looked like a reverse flow walker. Haha
My family thinks I'm making a farm animal of some sort.
I tacked on the flat bar for the outer lip. I'm scared to weld the door now it fits snug. I don't want to warp it.

Made the chimney flow restrictor and the door handle mounts out of more off cuts.

The handle is just temporary. I am getting a nice piece of jarrah spun up to go in there. I'm aware the general consensus around here is to use a metal spring as wood will get dirty. But I like wood.

You don't need anything too fancy Gumb. I've surprised myself how versatile the angle grinder can be.

I would love to hear some advice and feedback on my tuning plates. I have used one of my pipe off cuts. Sectioned it into 3 pieces ( only 2 in photo ). each one smaller than the last. I plan on playing around with them to see how they will affect heat and flow. It seemed like a good way to use what would of been otherwise scrap. I'll take a few more shots to better show what I'm doing.

Making the grills, seeing how they look and fit.

Sorry for straying from the build. But I was really hanging out for some smokey ribs.

Your local steel supplier should be able to help you. I bought mine for $90inc 1.2m X 2.4m from a company called Locker Group. They are a national company so you should have one in Melbs. You may be lucky and be able to get an off cut.

Ok. I'm on the final straight now. Just spent another day in the garage and things are starting to come together. All I have left now is a latch for the fire box door and to mount the chimney flow restrictor. A few more bits need a bit more welding and the wheels need securing. Then its time to sand her back and paint it up.
Cutting the legs down.

They're meant to slope towards the firebox right?

So good to be able to wheel it around now.

Man a second person to hold this would be handy.
