Re: Briquettes for WSM 22.5

Are you after extruded or pillow briquettes? Also, where are you located?

Re: Briquettes for WSM 22.5

The Kingsford Competition briquette "should" be chemical free (except for borax used as a mould releasing agent during manufacturing). Advertised as only containing wood char, starch and a very small amount of borax. Sawdust charcoal briquettes shouldn't have any binder in them, as the saw...

Re: New COCONUT Turds

Any chance of a close up pic of the inside of the briquettes, Chris?

Looks like either the briquettes didn't have enough binder in them to hold shape, or there's too much fine charcoal in the mix. Going by just the broken bits and dust, I'd say it was the latter.

Re: Emberpak

Thanks for the call, Davo. Yes we are open and operating. Jeff, you must have come by before 9am this morning, as I was out on an early delivery. Normally we are open from 9am to 5pm, but sometimes the warehouse is closed if I'm out on deliveries. Always best to give us a call before popping in. Chr...

Running cost: $50 for two kilograms of charcoal
I assume that is for binchotan, not normal charcoal.

Re: Where to get decent lump charcoal in Sydney

Hi guys,

Just an FYI, our prices are listed in our vendor section ($25, $30 or $35 per bag, depending on type).

That would be our charcoal, Tigger. Kamado Cookers Australia are one of our retail stockists.

Re: Charcoal suppliers

I picked some up from the party hire place - and a bag for a mate - he said it looks better than some of the lump he's gotten from bunnings. Neither of us have used any yet tho. Urbangriller mentioned it looks like it's from ABR Charcoal - from that list They have good quality charcoal....

Re: Heat Beads 4kg/$5 at Foodworks Supermarket

I'd be very surprised to hear that coconut briquettes turn to a pure white ash. We've tested hundreds of samples over the years, and even with a near 90/10 coconut to binder ratio, the ash is never really white (more like an extremely pale tan). The less binder though has the effect of making the br...

Re: Heat Beads 4kg/$5 at Foodworks Supermarket

Sawdust briquettes should always burn longer than lump, mainly as they are a lot denser than natural wood. Also, there should have no binders whatsoever, unlike coconut charcoal. With coconut charcoal, you can kinda of gauge how much binder there is by the colour of the ash. The lighter colour the a...

Re: Ethical and environmentally friendly???

But if you're talking full environmental impact, electric needs power stations. ? True. However, all solid fuels (except lump) require electricity to be manufactured. Too many variables to take into account; from raw material to end product and final usage. You would need to review not only the mat...

Re: Ethical and environmentally friendly???

Really couldn't say. Perhaps an electric BBQ would be the friendliest, since it doesn't emit any smoke or carbon monoxide like a solid fuel/gas BBQ?
