Re: Ethical and environmentally friendly???

I'd say from most environmentally friendly to least would be:

Wood Pellets
Coconut/Sawdust Briquettes
Lump Charcoal
Heat Beads

Of course, this is ignoring where the product comes from and assuming that the ingredients are sourced ethically and sustainably.

Re: Charcoal smoke

Break apart some of the large chunks and have a look inside. The examples of incompletely carbonised charcoal I've seen are a rusty brown on the inside. The worst I've ever seen was charcoal on the outside, but normal wood on the inside. Even had lichen growing out of the cracks in the charcoal.

Re: Bits of clay coming out of charcoal?

Not only can bits of dirt/clay/stone get caught up when extracting the charcoal from the pit, but also can occur when the manufacturer uses water to cool the charcoal. The water mixes with the dirt/clay in the pit and sticks or fills gaps in the charcoal. Shouldn't happen if they use a charcoal kiln...

Check Gumtree. I know there's a guy in Doonside who sells 220lt drums.

Re: Pics from KL trip

Fantastic pics, thanks for sharing!

We go back to KL at least every 3-4 months, ostensibly to check on our suppliers  , but I really go back just to eat! Always leave Malaysia a few kilos heavier than when I arrive.

Regards,

Chris

Re: Newbie at charcoal and Kamado. Emberpak?

Hi all, We are indeed back in stock of our stick & branch charcoal, with more stock coming in Dec, plus some of the larger lump. We also have plenty of stock of our charcoal briquettes (both sawdust and coconut shell). Frankly, demand at the moment is ridiculous. Already a third of our stock is gone...

Re: Newbie at charcoal and Kamado. Emberpak?

Hi All, Thought an explanation was in order. Over the last few months we have been experiencing an unusually high demand for our charcoal. Every time we re-stock, it's gone almost immediately! We haven't seen demand like this since before 2007. Unfortunately, we are currently out of stock of both ou...

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder. We will be ending the promotion on our 20kg lump & 10kg sawdust charcoal briquettes tomorrow.

The 2 for 1 and Winter Special will still be running until all stock is sold.
