The red gum is fine as long as it has not been treated, plenty of gumtree droppings to pick up in your area, I have just seen my local nut supplier who has given me a big bag of empty wallnut shells to through on the fire, Heat beads are fine just let them get ashed over and a way you go

Bunnings has box heatbeads 16kg for 22 bucks cant go past that, wood chunks maybe roadside trees with branches down should all be hard woods, the urbangriller put me onto Banksia cones which is my favorite, pick the dead and dry cones of the tree or on the ground and try gumtree seen some good deals...
