this thread is really old but i want to chime in heat beads are pregnated with an accelerant to burn....its why u are supposed to leave them a while before cooking on them. Remember that you stack these up, so you cab get a lot more in than you think. Pellet consumption is not a concern, my Jim Bowie uses 220g an hour on Low and Slow.
Yep, no brick, I use a rectangular drip pan, sits nicely in the bottom. Set your snake so you don't have to adjust the coals...if you setup carefully, you don't need to fiddle.
