Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion

I read on another forum that one poster shuts his bottom vent and controls the temp using only the top vent. Does this sound doable or practical? Not sure, it could work, but I'd question why. Re: Future BBQ Directions

Steve are you able to see the chargriller at bunnings?

The chargriller will take some learning at low and slow and may need some sealing (you can use the stuff used for fireplaces), but will be a great charcoal grill and will be a low cost gamble. From memory it costs under $200.

Re: Future BBQ Directions

the cleaning of the kamado has to be more difficult. We all have our biases I guess, but any BBQ will require some cleaning. A vacuum cleaner makes cleaning the kamado quite easy. Re: Future BBQ Directions

Sometimes just getting up Is not an option :( Also small handles and weighty lids are not an option along with lots of bending or kneeling to fiddle with vents. Here is a picture of someone using a WSM: http://www.onepot.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Weber-Smokey-Mountain-Cooker-Smoker-14.5-in.-Bl...

Re: Future BBQ Directions

One more vote for a kamado. The Akorn or Dragon will be well within budget. Should you ever have problems opening the lid (it shouldn't be too heavy as they are not ceramic) you could use a pulley system:
