Re: Sustainability

Have you got chooks Ant? They are great recyclers and don't need a heck of a lot of space in the garden. Just don't get too many like I did or you'll also be giving eggs away like there's no tomorrow. The thing I like about chooks is the fertiliser is great to add to the compost, which in turn is fa...

Re: Pizza Question

Oh ok, at 250c it might depend on the quality of the specific item. Check out this from wikipedia: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytetrafluoroethylene ) "Safety: The pyrolysis of PTFE is detectable at 200 °C (392 °F), and it evolves several fluorocarbon gases and a sublimate. An animal study cond...

Gumb wrote:I never considered that but maybe I should have. I cooked at around 250f and just assumed that since they are pizza trays they could stand up to that.
They can definitely stand 250f, but I doubt they'd be very safe at 250c or the 350c often reached for kamado pizza.

Re: Pizza Question

Yep, that's for oven cooked, they are also non stick teflon coated usually...so you don't want that in your Kamado!! +1 The teflon won't be rated for Kamado pizza temps and would be a health hazard. I've never found one that wasn't made of teflon, but then again I've never looked too hard for them...

They look exactly like the Costco ones. Very good value, especially considering that no paid membership is required (unlike Costco).

Re: Pizza Question

If you have a deflector, I'd put that in and let the stone come to temp with the rest of the kamado before placing a pizza on it. The stone should be pretty hot to cook the base properly. Gumb's video is also a good guide for another method.

Re: Akorn - No longer sold by Bunnings

Niko, lump is the way to go in Kamados. I've never tried robot turds and I imagine they'd work, but whether they'd give the same flavour or temp control as lump I couldn't tell you.
