Re: Bro and sear

Looks a good product and no doubt works.
Somewhere along the line I must have got so lazy with my kettle that all I was doing was dumping half a bag of lump or briquets up against one side (No baskets) and a water pan on the other. Lid vent over the water and start up a few coals.

Re: Hello from Central West NSW

Welcome Anthony, I was passing through your way last July. Could not believe the amount of goats wandering around on the way in from the west. Was a little too busy a road to drop one but was tempted. Beside we were already well and truly fed with goat back in SA. Welcome to the forum. I look forwar...

Re: Coffee Roasting

An old post but to answer it there is nothing stopping one from roasting green coffee beans in a Komado style bbq. The issue would be an open top chamber roasting pot and a way to clear the chaff. You also need to keep a visual on what is going on. First crack, Second crack then final colour. I've s...

Re: Another Adelaidean

Welcome Hazzzy There is heaps of Q info here abouts. With pork crackle there are various preps that help regardless of the bbq type. The main one I found is really drying out the skin prior to cooking at max heat at the start. Then turn down. I'm cooking one tonight in the Ziggy and I've been drying...

Re: Thermopen, Still the best?

Just a heads up, My order from thermoworks US was cancelled as there is an Australian authorised dealer. So I had to re-order from a company in Sydney called Ross Brown. It also came back to me that I think the same thing happened the last time and I forgot. Cost me more and I missed out on a freeby...

Re: Beefeater control Knobs

There should be an obvious process of reverse assembly. But something I thought of that might help is if the knobs just pull off, You could try spraying an electrical contact cleaner that is lightly oiled. Get it down past the shafts while turning them with pliers. Jay Car has the product, I use it ...

Re: Thermopen, Still the best?

I ended up going with the thermopen One. So an upgrade to what my old model is. Given that I use it every other day of the week, It's probably the right tool for me. I got a yellow colour again as that is the colour drilled into my head to spot when I'm looking for it.

Re: Thermopen, Still the best?

That's on the list Cobbler  I was also surprised to see that thermoworks still list the same old model I have. It might come down to the drunken e-bay fairy as to what way I go.

Thermopen, Still the best?

Just looking at my 16 year old thermopen that still works if I jiggle it around a bit and I've noticed a small crack in the hinge area. I only ever use this device so looking for a new one. All well said and done, I would happily go out and get another. But being out of the game so long maybe someth...

Downsizing

Hello all  Thought I would share a crossroad I have come to in my barbecue/clutter journey. Over the years I have enjoyed many bbq's and bbq gadgets, Some were fantastic and some not so but all were fun. Recently I have done something I have never done in thirty years,,, Sell something! I sold...

Re: Bacon questions

You dont need nitrite or nitrate for hot smoking but it wont be pink or have the classic ham flavor. The sugar and salt cure is fine but will make grey or funky color bacon. Long curing with just salt will make pork go pink but it will be much drier and saltier than bacon, prosciutto for example. It...

Re: No idea what I'm doing lol

Hi Woody, If your aim is to get into meat smoking and learn the basics, All the way to some pretty complicated stuff? I would go for a quality bullet smoker like the Pro Q or Weber WSM. Hands down they will teach you the ropes about air control, Moisture and fire management. They also produce a very...

One will pop up Davo, It's interesting to note that there truly was some black hart ass holes that had the run of this forum. They are all moved on to another place and doing well. The good thing about that is for here, "This place" is you get to restart. Paulr , This is directed at you. C...
