Keep hearing from happy Akorn users.
If you are near a Costco keep an eye out for their Vision Kamados. Love my two and they are priced between $600 and $800 dollar depending when they appear.

Re: Satay grills. Who has one? What should I look for?
I also reccomend freestanding over tabletop. More flexible (has its own stand) and no risk to tabletop (mess or heat). I prefer to cook over the grass if i have the option for the mess. I only use charcoal also. Apart from flavour you may need to fan from time to time and the beads just have too muc...

Re: Satay grills. Who has one? What should I look for?
Titch that lemongrass recipe looks awesome. For a crowd i use the Lobo brand satay mix. It has a marinade and a sauce for around $2. Mostly has a predominately orange packet in oz vs the one showed in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZeW_05tHYc Marinade AFTER cutting up in the box. You c...

I got one of the small ones from BBQ Aroma and love it. http://www.bbqaroma.com.au/online/product_info.php/products_id/231/osCsid/kq4f76cqj7vdlmlhki84f48tt7 Pros Legs screw on and off with wingnuts and then can be stored all packed into the one parcel. You could use a bag but i just put the screws a...

Re: how to obtain high heat for grilling and Pizza
Clean out the ash a bit (just with some long tongs - doesn't need to be perfect), light under a pyramid of decent chunk (not shrapnel) with decent airflow and close lid with top and bottom vents fully open. It will act like its own chimney and get very hot very fast. Having said that I usually light...

Re: Thailand visit next month
There seems to be something over there for just about any taste but I agree with the seafood suggestions. Be sure to see what condition the food is stored in though. We saw a few places with the same food on dislpay a couple of days in a row as we walked past. Loved having a whole fish each day for ...

Lucky mistake with dough
I often use a bread machine to prep dough. The other day I set it all up before going out to make a batch that had a little higher water content than the recipe called for but was otherwise straight forward. I do use some milk powder in my dough recipe. When i came home later I had a very wet mix fo...

Aren't those little arrosticini trenches a great social cook. I love mine. Brings in the crowds lke flies. While it (and the box) was a small investment I am quite sure I use it more than the average person uses that expensive unused pot or casserole dish found on many gift registries. Folds up to n...

Hard to believe but there have been two incidents in a fortnight of carbon monoxide poisonings from fuel burners (BBQ's/braziers) being brought indoors to beat the cold. Todays was a whole family that was very lucky to have had one member wake up in time. 3 were out cold and may yet be still be effe...

I have seen some people use one of these little kettles and a flexible vent to a kamado for cold smoking.
Anyone here tried that?

Gotta love a bacon and egg pizza. Often do one once everyone is full just to use leftover heat and last dough ball.
Warms up great for breakfast.

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion
In my kamado I love cheese kranskies smoked at really low temps. With a cold beer there is nothing better. -After cooking something else I will close down to the most minimal vent openings possible and let the temp fall right down -Using a two rack system I drop some hickory chips through the grill ...
