Re: Melbourne Lump Charcoal Group Buy

Gumb, Wandin East wouldn't be much different than going to Dingley. Certainly a nicer drive through the hills. Stewart I get all my charcoal from Terry and have a couple of bags of his red gum here. It's fine. There's always some small pieces in 20kg bags which are too small to use but I found less ...

Re: Q Ham (Pickled Pork)

Did this tonight on Baby Q, little foil pack of smoke wood and glazed with honey with a dribble of balsamic for last half hour.
Magnificent, will be done a lot more in future.

Re: Dehydrator or Electric smoker

i bought a Nesco from the States and unlike the Harvest Maid/Ezidri it has the motor on top instead of the bottom where it eventually clogs and burns out with moisture dripping down. I had to get a step down transformer to run it but still a lot cheaper and better than models here with bottom motor....

Re: New addition - Ziggy portable

Certainly looks very versatile esp. with trivet setup.
Might be a silly question but can you restrict gas flow from bottle for lower heat?

Re: Quickest way to light charcoal

The problem with a looftlighter is that you have to stand there holding it when you could be prepping food.

I don't think there is a better way than the booster, I don't regret buying mine for a minute.

Not bad and only down the road from home.

mature pekin duck

The local butcher at work has mature pekin duck for sale which is bigger and cheaper than the standard duck they sell.
How would this go done really slow on pellet cooker?
I think it is sold more as a boiling type duck rather than for roasting.

Thermapen alternative???

Hi Guys and Girls,
Some advice please.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Thermapen in instant read (or reasonably quick read) that is reasonable?
I want to get one for my son but it won't get used a lot so don't want to spend heaps.
Thanks Stewart
