Hmm, I guess that must be it. I'll take out the Worcestor sauce from the marinade and see if that works.
It's only happened to me once, despite using the same marinade for over a year now. Maybe it was a one-off? I dunno :/

Black smoke ring?
Hey guys, Ages ago now I cooked up a rockin brisket, but in parts, it appeared that the smoke ring was black, and not red. In some cases, the ring started red and turned black the deeper the ring went into the meat. I dont think it changed the flavour, but it didnt look awesome. Does anyone know why...

The reason why charcoal is expensive is that you need a lot of feedstock. By weight, you only get around 34% of the feedstock being turned into charcoal. So if you get a tonne of wood and turn it into charcoal, you'll only get around 340 kilo's of char. Heatbeads are just made out of brown coal dug ...
