Re: keeping the BBQ forum going
Hi Davo I'm an old member who fondly remembers what this place used to be like and can also remember when things went to custard. I just wanted to add my 2c to say I completely agree with the path you are taking here and if the software / rego side of things gets sorted I'm confident this forum can ...

Re: Beafeater Bugg issues
You've just reminded me of when I cleaned my Q200 last summer, and struck a similar issue. It would light, but not burn strongly) and when I closed the lid it would go out. Eventually I found the problem - the burner tube had a layer of water in it - not enough to block it, but enough to reduce the...

Re: Hotter or longer to render beef fat?
Both. Cooking it longer renders more of the fat that melts at that temperature as it migrates through the meat. Cooking it hotter renders the fat that only melts at higher temperatures. But remember, it's the temperature of the meat that I'm talking about here - not the temperature of the cooker! Bi...

Re: Making Charcoal
I have an old verge pickup kettle that I use small wood pieces in - still working through a batch of old jarrah rafters that came out of a neighbour's roof. I start a small fire in it and then fill with wood pieces as the fire progressively takes (filling it with wood and then trying to start a fire...

Re: Beafeater Bugg issues
There is one possible explanation . It could be the fresh air intake on the gas burner (no idea where it is on a Bugg but it's usually just the other side of the relevant knob), which mixes the gas with fresh air to create the correct "blue flame", could be slightly blocked. When the lid i...

Re: Confused
The Dragon kamado would have been the best but that boat has sailed I'm afraid. +1. For the price, I wouldn't have anything else, hands down - and I own and learnt on a Weber Performer as well following advice on here. I reckon the Dragon would have been easier to learn on - it's certainly easier t...

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion
Probably what killed the Dragon is the Australian dollar exchange rate plunge. BBQG probably looked at the cost to import the next batch of Dragons and the next price to sell and probably worked out too hard to sell for enough profit. We have to remember they were $499 without a defector or cover v...

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion
I just got the Kamado Joe D&C split heat deflector - it gives you two zone cooking and a nice amount of thermal mass. It was discounted in BBQG at about $30. My Dragon lives under the verandah and I cook on it too often to bother with a cover! A quick brush to get any dust off and away we go...

Re: Rough time guide for snake and 7.5kg whole chuck.
I agree there are too many beads, making it burn too fast. I don't agree that it will be a problem - chuck is one of the most forgiving lumps of meat you can cook! I reckon it will come out fine... some of my best have been done quickly at 350F in the early stages and then held at temp for a long ti...
