Re: Loof Lighter vs Electric Charcoal Starter

IMO this is the simplest & best value for money charcoal lighter out there. https://www.masters.com.au/product/100489974/wesco-2000w-heat-gun-ws20hg-black Simply pile your charcoal in your kamado/weber & ignite it in situ with the heat gun, the combination of heat & fan assistance soon h...

Re: Perfectly brown crust on a Kamado pizza - Engineers opin

I've gotta say, I don't like the look of the pizza linked from the original post at all. In particular, the crust on top looks burned, not nicely browned. Me neither...it looks like it's been cooked until there's hardly any moisture left in it whatsoever. I use exactly the same set-up in my egg as ...

Re: Eccentric axe uses physics to make splitting firewood ea

Bugga...I wish that I had seen this video a week ago...during the last few days I've just chopped & stacked 3 tonnes of Jarrah ready for winter...using an old tyre would definitely have made the whole job far easier, oh well, at least I now know what to do next year..!

Re: Pot Lifter for Moving A Kamado

Hi Card Shark, Now I understand your dilemma...it's a real bugga lifting them up & out of the nests at the best of times! First question, do your kamado nests have wheels attached, if not can you easily install some? Like this: http://www.taylorsbackyardcenter.com/big_green_egg_xlarge_nest With ...

Re: Pot Lifter for Moving A Kamado

Have you considered using one of these rather than the straps, especially if you are simply moving it from A to B over flat ground: http://www.bunnings.com.au/250kg-p-handle-trolley-with-pneumatc-tyres_p2972045 Possible benefits: The cost is quite reasonable. It takes the strain off your back. It tu...

You can also put a few rolled-up balls of tinfoil under the tray to raise it up slightly so that it's not in direct contact with the heat deflector.

Re: My mates new Smokey Mountain.

If he's a novice then he's probably done quite well with his purchase because cooking with this set-up should be as simple as loading it with pellets, lighting up, dial in the desired cook temp, let the unit stabilise & wack on the meat & relax whilst it's doing its magic..! Novices sometime...

Disclaimer - I don't have any experience with either of the items so my comments below in your case may not be valid :!: Personally I would leave it where it is to begin with & try it out, that way you'll get a feel for how well the pellet feeder is able to control the temperature & what sor...

Re: Need some help from some campers

Hi Hogsy, Not sure exactly where or how you intend to use it but just be very mindful that these things emit some seriously hazardous emissions when fully cranking..! Personally I would only ever consider using one of these in an outdoor situation in a similar manner to a pseudo campfire never insid...

Re: Low & Slow Pork Failure!

I'm wondering if it's due to a combination of factors specifically the overall size of the joint of meat & the fact that your WSM uses a waterpan that helps maintain a high moisture level during the cook. I've posted a link below to a very Interesting article that uses science to dispell the myt...

Re: Yorkshire pudding

Me too. I LOVE Yorkshire pudding! +1 Here's a few tips that I follow when making batter puds! If you love the style of puds that rise up really high then make sure that you use a strong flour (one containing high levels of gluten), the gluten gives the mix the stretchiness needed to trap in the ste...

Re: Big Green Egg Guru

Hi Henry, Fully concur with DClem, I've had mine since Nov, 2010 & still use it on a regular basis, in my opinion it's an excellent product, well worth the money, makes low n slow cooks easy as. I also like it because it allows me to light the charcoal with my blowtorch, set the desired pit temp...

My injector only has a whole in the end! I've been kidding myself all this time. Seems to work ok.
Don't worry Nath, I think that you'll find that the majority of us have an "injector" like yours, those that have one like version A above usually end up with wet shoes..!

Re: Bbq cabinet

Another poor mans option is to get a credenza or two from a 2nd hand office furniture store, these are usually quite sturdy, reasonably priced & well made, some even look quite specy. When I got mine I went for the cheapest option possible, a daggy old white one but solid as & heavy as hell,...

Re: Need advice - Pork ribs turning out too tough/chewy

I've always been pleased with the results that I've obtained using the 3-2-1 method.

There's plenty of info on the net about this method, here's just one of many sites explaining the different stages.
