Do you leave the original fire grate in and put something under it to sear?
I ve removed it but I think leaving it could be better as smaller lumps tend to fall through.

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion

Yeah, I would like to avoid removing the inner shell, I am looking at a way to cut these weird nuts, there is not much space to cut the screws (and this stanless is a hard one).

Re: Different Charcoal For Different Situations

Hi folks. BBQs Galore threw a bag of KJ charcoal in with the deal. I have a Kamado too, i was quite happy with the bag from BBQ galore ( but it was not that expensive) but then I got then 3 bags 20kg of Gidgee, I am still trying to finish them. This Gidgee is a very hot charcoal, probably great but...

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion

Ive never seen or heard of anyone on here modding a dragon. Remember Akorns (and pressumably dragon's) have one of the best factory seals in the kamado game. You can not destroy them, no burning as they are not felt. If the gasket gets hard just pinch it softly all the way round with your fingers a...

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion

I did my fist low slow on it last night, a pulled pork got it relatively stable at around 110*C for 17hours, stop when the pork was at 96*C.it did use almost no charcoal, impressive insulation. I have not idea what a pulled pork should taste like but mine was nice pink, easy to shred, but perfectly ...

Re: Kaman Big Joe Standalone ordered !!!

Hi All A little excited and thought I'd say G'Day. Earlier today I had my order of a black Kamado Big Joe confirmed. I've put the deposit down and now need to wait for its arrival. The Big Joe standalone units are a special order from BBQs galore and take 4 months to get here. Dylan Congratulation

Re: Akorn and Dragon General Discussion

I got my Dragon home this morning, I hope to have it assembled tonight. Oh, and align the holes for the axle on the legs prior to screwing the stand base together. Would have saved myself an hour if I'd known this part. D'oh! Same i had to unscrew some very carefully tightened bolts to be able to i...
