Re: 44 gallon drum bbq

People that have made a 44 gallon bbq.
What do you use for a charcoal grate?
What do you use for a cooking grate?
What cut on the lid do you prefer 180 degree or 90 degree and why?
Thanks

Re: 44 gallon drum bbq

Hi titch
Yes like that.
Anyone madeone of these?
Seems to be 2 options withe the lid cut. a 180 degree cut or a 90 degree cut. I am not sure which would be better?

Re: 44 gallon drum bbq

Hi titch
Thanks for the reply. I was meaning a drum bbq not a ugly drum smoker. I have a UDS that I made already. Looking to make or buy a ugly drum grill to go with it.

Re: Buying my first offset

Hi Ryan Did you ever work out what to buy? With gas bbqs you can get some rally good deals on second hand gear. Last year I got a Weber Summit for 10 per cent of new price. Now the summit is the top of the range of the Weber gas grills. Are there deals like this with offset smokers? Which offset smo...

Glass Door Gas Smoker

Is a glass door on a smoker a gimmick? I was thinking that the smoke would stain the glass fairly quickly and then you wouldn't be able to see in. May be better to buy a sheeted door gas smoker? Would the sheeted door smokers keep more heat in vs the glass door?
Thanks

Re: Weber Genesis vs other brand hooded bbq

My summit was very cheap. I did have to drive 6 hours and return 6 hours to get it. Still very cheap about 10 % of new price. I know a new model would be better but I could never afford one. My Summit does anything I want. Just something for other people to think about. There may be value in buying ...

Ended up buying a second hand Summit 6 burner. Love it. Can do roast pork with crackling no worries. Beer can chicken is easy. I have done one roast chicken on foil . So if I can do one I could do 5 easy. Prefer the beer can chicken. I use the weber deluxe poultry roaster. Works relly well . My summ...

Lighting 4 Weber kettles

If you were using 4 Weber kettles. You know one for beef one for lamb one for pork and one for chicken. the vegs can be done in the oven inside. How would you go about lighting them? Char baskets in each kettle? At least that way they would be ready to go around the same time. I have 2 x heat beads ...

Re: BBQ gurus advice needed on new BBQ this week, please

Hi wilsonj
Davo's suggestion to get a seperate flat plate bbq is a very good one. I believe you can buy 2 burner fold up flat plate bbq's at bunnings for $200 new. Second hand should get one for $50 or less. You could use that for campinp too if you go. Best of both worlds then.

Re: Weber Genesis vs other brand hooded bbq

Hi Davo Was just re reading your post about the genesis and the foil and trivets. So would you just put foil over where the burners are ? Then racks (trivets) on top of that? So put burners on high for say 15 minutes then on low for rest of cooking Time? I have just cooked my first beer can chicken ...

Hi wilsonj
I believe you would or should have got a flat plate with your genesis. So that should cover a lot of bases. Did you get a cookbook with your new bbq. ?
That would guide you on using the new bbq. I think you have made a wise choice. Bbq is what Weber do. Enjoy.

Re: Weber Jumbo Joe Kettle

Hi Davo
I have 2 x 18 inch kettles. Don't have a jumbo joe. One of my 18's has a hinged cooking grate. Would you be able to buy one from weber Australia and would that fit the jumbo joe.
