Re: Reccomendations on gas bottles for Weber Q320
Check out my post from last year with regard to the Weber plastic tray and gas bottles. http://www.aussiebbq.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9561 I heard some time ago that Gasmate were not going to market the 8.5/9kg bottles anymore. Although are are listed here: http://www.bunnings.com.au/gasm...

Re: Reccomendations on gas bottles for Weber Q320
Davo - Did you go the gasmate brand? What do you think of the quality of the paint/powder coating and valve? My last 9kg was Australian made (which I was very happy with) and I am a little unsure of the quality of the chinese made gasmate cylinder - however it looks pretty good in the shop. - It's b...

Reccomendations on gas bottles for Weber Q320
Hi all, Short story: Looking for reccomendations on where to buy/ what brand of 9kg gas bottle I should get for my weber Q320. I'm not keen on swap and go and would prefer to own my own bottle, unless other forum users think that the bottle swap companies have cleaned up their act. Long story: Had m...

Re: hooded vs webber q
I remember when the weber q first came out and I saw it in DJ's and thought who would want a plastic BBQ? What a piece of crap. Fast forward roughly 10 years and I have gone through numerous BBQ's, and will be purchasing a family Q shortly. So what made me come across to the dark side? I was looking...

Re: Supercharging your chimney starter
OK, after reading everyone's thoughts and the similar post to this one on looftlighters vs heatguns, I had a lightbulb moment. Supercharging is forced air induction. Harking back to my first job, a charcoal chimney start is just like a blast furnace. You want more heat, it's not more fuel you need t...

Re: Supercharging your chimney starter
For all that effort, I just prefer the cardboard type fire lighters from Bunnings (samba brand) which don't have crap in them. $2 a packet and with a couple under the chimney it's flaming in no time, particularly if I fill it with Lump charcoal but heat beads don't take long either. It's easy, it's...

Re: Pellets vs smoking wood
Here you go mate  Having actual chunks of wood is the ultimate. Some can get it easy and some just not so. Its a privilege of where you live and what and who you know. Pellets are the next best thing, In Fact can be even better. I cannot get cherry wood but I can order in a bag of cherry pell...

Re: Supercharging your chimney starter
Yep, a cheap butane burner is the way to go, so when you forget about it and leave it on the burner (happens at least to everyone!) there not too expensive to replace. Or get a dual burner butane stove so when you melt one side you still have another (experienced) Don't forget the possibility of an...

Re: Supercharging your chimney starter
Do you find that using gas gives less smoke on the initial burn over fire lighters? I'm getting a huge amount of black smoke on lighting up the firelighters at the moment. Wondering if I got a wet batch of heat beads....

Supercharging your chimney starter
Love my chimney starter but would like to look at alternatives to firestarters and paper to get it going. Heard a few people talking about using those cheap butane stoves approx $14- when I was at bunnings today started looking at a gasmate cast iron triple burner gas stove for $70. What do you use ...

Re: How do you burn your sticks?
The story behind that stick burner is quite interesting. Actually designed as a life saver for poverty stricken communities in disheveled countries. Actor Mat Damon is also doing real stuff with water.org. Is that the stove that uses a small solar panel to help aid combustion to reduce the incidenc...

Pellets vs smoking wood
Hi, I've played around a bit with "flavour" pellets with the OTS and really like the ease of use and results they yeild. Haven't tried actual smoking wood (chunks or chips). I've only ever used the foil pouch method. Don't have a smoking box. Looking for some advice from those who have pla...

How do you burn your sticks?
Thought I'd start a topic on burning wood after Chris from urbangriller suggested that a cast iron hibachi could be used for wood fired cooking.
Wood burners tend to be creative bunch so please post your photos of your wood burners.

Re: Reliability of a Looftlighter vs Heatgun
Buy a chimney - it will change how you view cooking with solid fuel - I would even go so far as saying it is an essential accessory for any weber kettle. The heat bead baskets are good but a chimney does a far superior job.
