Re: Its Quiet on this Board

Happy New Year 2025! Got the Weber kettle out for NYE. In the old days the Weber kettle was the first step for "serious" bbqing after the gasser. Nowadays bbq'ers tend to go to the set and forget bbqs like pellet or stay with gassers or electric complete with VEGAN. For the forum old timer...

Re: Its Quiet on this Board

Gday 12x7 It’s good to hear from you I’d thought you’d given the forums away Regards Dave Hey Dave, Still posting away. I drop in to a number of "oldie" forums like this one every now and then to help keep them alive. Cooked the Christmas turkey on the Kamado, no total fire ban. Was worri...

Re: Replacing Kamado Joe casters / wheels on cart

The cart is looking good. Bands are ok. Been through a couple of set of hinge/lid springs. Gave up the ceramic deflectors and now use a cast iron pizza pan. Big crack in the fire ring and waiting for it to totally fail and a couple of cracks on the firebox.

Replacing Kamado Joe casters / wheels on cart

I have a large Kamado Joe which is over 10 years old. Back then you only had the large Kamado Joe and the Big Joe. The original cart wheels are plastic and reknown to break and crack leaving the hub. I was pretty lucky it seems that my wheels lasted so long. Rather than replace the wheels with the p...

Ninja 1760W Woodfire Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker

Saw this on catch.com. With the forecast of a hot, dry summer and no fossil fuel bbqing this might be fun to use. https://www.catch.com.au/product/ninja-1760w-woodfire-electric-bbq-grill-smoker-26765522/?offer_id=100353615&ref=gmc&st=123&iv_=__iv_p_1_a_662349086_g_1255643595014188_c__k__...

Re: Downsizing

You can bbq some pretty tasty veggies on the gasser.

There's also vegans who eat meat when they think nobody is watching.

Re: Downsizing

Back to Smokey's original post.

If I ended up in a unit like Davo mentioned I would keep the Ziggy and put it on the unit balcony. If I needed smoke I would use a smoker box/tube. The rest of the bbqs would be sold off as no space.

Re: Kamado and smoking tube - why?

Thanks for the investigation Dave.

I guess the idea of using a smoking tube is only useful for cold smoking in a Kamado.

I think I will stick to wood chunks if I need extra smoke.

Re: Kamado and smoking tube - why?

I'm thinking if were using the kamado with direct heat without a deflector the smoking tube might get enough airflow not to go out.

Could be used for cold smoking.

Re: Downsizing

I saw on the news recently that in Sydney a council slapped a Sydney business with ban notice over smell of smoke and brisket. They were using a pellet smoker outside for the restaurant. I wonder how the people complaining would survive living in another country which has a vibrant outdoor cooking c...
