Re: Kamado choices in 2020

I own both a Kamado Joe (ceramic) and Akorn (metal insulated) from Bunnings. Since you're just starting out charcoal BBQ'ing I would recommend the Akorn. It's a good price, made of metal with insulation and tough. It doesn't use a lot of charcoal so it is very cheap to run. It's a good way to try ou...

Coles Crackling Ham Semi Boneless

Coles Crackling ham is a special line they have which pops up every now and then on special occasions such as Christmas. Before Christmas Coles was charging $20/kg. After Christmas they were selling them for $9/kg. Something different to try and cook. The leg was about 5kg. With a best before at the...

Re: New to BBQ smoking

A good price to try smoking. Save some extra dollars by buying your heat beads from Bunnings. Heaps cheaper than BBQ Galore/supermarket prices. 7.5kg for $11.98 https://www.bunnings.com.au/heat-beads-7-5kg-bbq-briquettes_p0029014 https://2ecffd01e1ab3e9383f0-07db7b9624bbdf022e3b5395236d5cf8.ssl.cf4....

Charcoal baskets

Charcoal baskets. Weber had them for years for their kettles. You can pick them up from a few places now. $12.95 from BBQ Galore for example https://www.barbequesgalore.com.au/pro-smoke-charcoal-baskets https://www.barbequesgalore.com.au/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/719x466/9df78eab33525d08d6...

Re: Ziegler & Brown Grand Turbo

Have a look at these guys

https://www.thebarbequestore.com.au/

The $15,000 kitchen package gives the $6,000 spend on the Ziggy some context when it comes to outdoor kitchens.

Re: Ziegler & Brown Grand Turbo

Thanks Davo. Yep, we looked at the weber. (We also have a weber family Q at home, an old weber kettle and a small weber charcoal.). Interested in wether the Ziggy cooks better (hotter esp). Quality-wise, the Ziggy seems to come out on top. Once you get past $1,000 for a gas BBQ the return on cookin...

Re: New BBQ and Entertainment area - which BBQ set-up?

Yep, $5k is OK if it gets me a good BBQ, with hood etc, with cupboards underneath, some drawers would be nice too; about 2-2.5m long. What's seen as the top 3 good brands these days for grilling but also roasting with hood down? And you reckon allowing for freestanding BBQ(s) is the way to go rathe...

Re: New BBQ and Entertainment area - which BBQ set-up?

There's so many choices.

To narrow it down how much do you want to spend?

eg You can get some real nice outdoor kitchens for about $5 thousand.

Re: OMG - No posts for 2 years

I think things have quietened down quite a bit everywhere. I looked at some of the other BBQ places eg FB and forums and it looks like people are getting bored and not posting anywhere as much. The hardware sections are pretty dead. Nobody seems interested or new innovations are not worth mentioning...
