Re: Melbourne - Looking for 7kg brisket by Easter

I thought that might be the case, but didn't want to risk it. The 10kg had a lot of hard fat on it that would have to be cut off anyway, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it! Always next year for the next 20 hour brisket :) (Definitely worth staying up all night for though... couple years ago ...

Re: Melbourne - Looking for 7kg brisket by Easter

Just picked up an 8kg one. They had a 10kg, but unfortunately it was to expire on Friday, and I need it for Saturday. A real shame, I would have loved some brisket left overs! (Who am I kidding, there's never leftovers...)

Melbourne - Looking for 7kg brisket by Easter

Does anyone know where I could get a 6-7kg brisket? I work in Port Melbourne, so I'm close to the two markets (Sth Melb and Queen Vic) if anyone knows a butcher there that will have one handy. Pretty much needs to be somewhere within 30min of Port Melbourne so I can get there in my lunch break. I tr...

Re: Quickest way to light charcoal

Reporting back with an update... The first time I tried the Heat Beads booster, it f&%%* sucked! I was using the 'natural' Samba firelighters from Bunnings. Spent about an hour and a half and all I accomplished was an upset missus (I got grumpy...) and some cold beads. The second time I tried, I...

Re: Quickest way to light charcoal

The trick is to only use the gas to get it going - probably 10 minutes tops, sometimes only 5-6 mins on stick charcoal, then turn off the gas. I should have paid more attention in science class... I'll give this a try! Have also looked into the looftlighter, how long does that take to light a full ...

Quickest way to light charcoal

I'm coming from the Charcoal booster thread, where someone wrote: Look I am nobody, but every of the "veterans" on the forum can confirm if you need 60 minutes you're doing something wrong. When I light charcoal, I fill up the chimney and stick it on the Wok burner on the BBQ, but without ...

Re: Gasser for under $400?

$374, but then Masters will beat it by 10%!

I think another mate is chipping in though, so we can afford the better one.

Re: Gasser for under $400?

Hmm I hadn't noticed the difference but was planning on the Q2000, since it would be about $90 cheaper than the 2200. If I get one more mate to chip in, I will try for the 2200, but not sure I can afford it otherwise.

Gasser for under $400?

A mate is having a housewarming and has asked for a BBQ. Unfortunately he doesn't know any better, so he wants a gas :x so now I have no idea what to get him. Something around a 4 burner would be good I think. I assume everything Jumbuck branded is rubbish, but I don't know if they have any decent m...

Re: Beavers Guide to Aussie Brisket

Brisket turned out great. 6.3kg, put on at about 6pm By 11pm, temp had shot up to 160 and I was preparing toast to have brisket sandwiches for breakfast. Worries faded away, however, when by 6am it was 170. 11am, 180. 4pm, 190. 6.30 and ready for wrapping at 200 :) BTW, I wrapped with the paper at 1...
