Yup I’m sorta back from a few days off. Well first of all I had to fly to Queensland for a few days (and after we got back my wife decided to go on a detox). This of course means that she’s not eating any meats and firing up the BBQ for just 1 just isn’t my thing…

Whilst thumbing through one of my BBQ cook books: “Smoke and Spice” I came across some smoked vegetables (I usually skip those chapters). So today we went to the local organic markets (every Sunday in Frenchs Forest) and got some vegetables (sadly still no meat). We got some sweet potatoes, some portobello mushrooms and a couple of red onions. To cut a short story even shorter I found some nice and easy smoked vegetables recipes…

Sweet potatoes:
Take some sweet potatoes (cut the in half lengthwise to shorten the Q-ing time) and smoke (slow-cook at 225F with about a handfull of smoking chips) for about 1 1/2 hours.
Red onion:
Slice the onions in about .8 cm slices (yup that precise) and skewer some toothpicks through them. Sprinkle some olive oil over them and season well with pepper and salt. Smoke them for about 15 minutes turning once midway.
Portobello mushrooms:
Sprinkle some olive oil over them and season well with pepper and salt. Smoke them for about 15 minutes turning once midway.

So I prepared my KK and used the BBQ Guru (set for 225F) as it was a very straight forward smoke. I also used my ET-73 as I was inside working on my wife’s blog (BTW I tried to monitor the ET-73 from the study upstairs but it wouldn’t connect, a bit dissapointing I will research this a bit more…).

So with the KK and guru connected it was a real set-and-forget cook (for the first 75 minutes anyway). Is that easy or what?? Well the result after about 90 minutes looked as follows:
VegiesKK
The taste was delicious (the smoke really got into it).

Oh yeah I managed to grill myself a T-bone on the gasser (no photo’s) it was blue and great as well.
All in all a pretty successful cook even though there eas no meat on the KK (ooops).
