I discovered something interesting (or it may just say something about me) about my guru/stoker usage. Depending on the length of the cook and perhaps the “complexity” I tend to either use my guru for some and my stoker for other cooks. So what am I trying to say here?

First of all having 2 gadgets to do basically the same function (monitor/regulate the tempreatures of my Komodo Kamado) is perhaps a bit of overkill HOWEVER:
Whenever I have a quick cook (less than 1 1/2 hours) I use my guru;
Whenever I want to have a log of my cook and how it went I use my stoker
My guru is setup and connected in under 2 minutes
My stoker setup (including wireless connection to laptop) takes about 6 minutes
Whenever I leave the house for extended periods I use my guru (yeah yeah I haven’t connected my stoker to the internet yet)
Whenever I have a longer cook (and am at home) I use my stoker

I believe a lot of other users have said this before but the guru is much more user-friendly, having said that the stoker (with the great stokerlog software by Amir) gives me so much more to “play” with whilst keeping a log of the actual cook which makes it worth some of the hassle.. When I say hassle it really isn’t that bad once you get to know the little beast and software.
So I wouldn’t want to go without either but I feel that a guru would suit most set-and-forget BBQ-ers and the stoker is for those of us who like to play around a bit more (my 2cts) and like analysing cooks.
Oh yeah, the guru service is great and super responsive vs getting stoker support is a bit harder (forget about email) and your best bet is to use the phone…
