Since I’m notoriously lazy around my BBQ one of the items I have on my wish-list is a remote thermometer. Being able to sit in front of the TV watching a game without having to get up to check the BBQ sounds like heaven to me. I have been looking at remote thermometers for a while now…

The following remotes spring to mind:
Maverick, Acu-rite, Weber, NU-temp; A number of these come in a variety of model however for my purposes I’m looking at:
Must have food temp probe
Must have pit temp probe
Must be able to withstand at least 400F
Must have a digital readout
Must be remote (duh)

Well the digital readout immediately disqualifies the weber (32908) termometer as it apparantely give you a choice of meat and a choice of “doneness” i.e. no control of actual meat temp (nor pit temp).
Again I’m a great fan of Weber’s but not for my remote thermometer.
The AcuRite (although I have come across this on several forums) only supports 1 probe and is rated up to 392F so again another non-contender…

The models I’m looking at are:
Maverick ET-73
Temp range 32F – 410F
Dual Probe
Cost AU$ 75

NU 701 + NU 751
Temp Range -42 – 392F
Single Probe + Additional Probe
Cost US 101 + shipping

Well guess what my “research” in this case was fairly easy….
I did read in several forums some negative + positive reviews on the ET-73 however on the whole people seemed to be content with this model.
Given that it’s available in Oz with a very competitive price of AU$75 inclduing shipping I reckon that’s the way to go. If I get it I will follow this up with a review!

This is where I’m buying it (sjeesh I should get commission! ) Maverick ET-73 a bit down the page.
