Review: Stoker first usage

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Well tonight was the first real opportunity for me to us the Stoker. I planned to use it to do a roast chook. I managed to connect the Stoker via a backup netgear I have and after some initial problems (which were I hasten to add all Netgear related) I had my Stoker info on my PC. I also loaded version 4.2 of Stokerlog (I know version 5 is out but decided to go with an older (more stable?) version)
You can find this version here: http://la.gg/upl/StokerLogSetup42_1.msi Read More→

Review: Maverick E-73 (first impressions)

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Well after several weeks (remember I got this a birthday present) of having the Maverick in my possession the embargo was lifted AND I found time to do a cook so I used it.
These impressions are based on a quick grill (not a low-and slow) and I did NOT read the manual. Guess what I usually always read manuals, don’t know why bit I have always done so. Main reason for not doing so this time was because I was running out of time and assumed that usage should be pretty much self-evident (not too many controls) Read More→

Preparation Stoker

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Just a short blog entry as there is not too much to report tonight. As I have two wireless routers I intended to use 1 solely as my BBQ router connected to my Stoker. I use a Billion VOIP wireless as my main network router and have a netgear lying around as a backup. I thought I just connect my laptop to this “old” router (that I haven’t used for a while) and test it to see if I could connect to it. Read More→

Quiet winter days in Sydney

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Well I got back from our little trip to the Hunter Valley (bought some nice wines). Unfortunately the weather is really cooperating with my BBQ plans, basically it’s too cold (was only 16C today in Sydney).
Now I know what you’re saying I’ve got a lot of toys to play with (new remote Maverick, new Stoker and various other BBQ playthings) so I should just BBQ…. Read More→

BBQ Adventure: Mushroom Hamburgers

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Decided to cook some hamburgers (should be easy enough for a midweek cook)…
I found a nice recipe in one of my BBQ books “Wild-Mushroom Stuffed Rosemary Burgers” and all I needed to do was do some shopping and get the ingredients. Read More→

BBQ Books: How to Grill (Steven Raichlen)

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

This has to be (currently) one of my favourite BBQ books. It has a very nice selection of food to cook and he is very informative (who doesn’t like photo’s?) in the way he writes his recipes. I’ll quickly give an overview of what’s in this book and pick out some of my “most cooked” BBQ recipes Read More→

Gadget: Stoker

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Well I received my Stoker today (unfortunately it’s under embargo until after my birthday) but I can at least show you what’s in the shipment for Rock’s BBQ. I ordered a Basic System Plus which is as far as I’m concerned the absolute minimum as you need at least a pit probe and a food probe. Read More→

BBQ Adventure: Chicken Paella

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Well I’ve made this before (but never blogged it) and will have to put in the full recipe on the website (one of these days <grin>). Anyway got myself the ingredients and started firing up the Komodo Kamado at 17:00 for a 19:00 meal. Since a lot of the cook is actually 5-15 minutes of separate ingredient cooking I have always controlled temps for paella cooking with the KK vents (which work like a charm I might add) instead of using my BBQ guru (or even my stoker when it arrives). Review: BBQ Liners

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

I came across a company that sells BBQ Liners (hot sheets) Aussie BBQ Liners which are supposed to make your life simpler because the product they sell is non-stick which makes cleaning them easier. My first impression is that it DOES make your life easier and is a very handy product (again I’m not being paid by this company (I wish!)). My first impressions/review are captured as follows.
