hi there, anyone making charcoal in Tassie? or exporting to a Tassie dealer? Get's very expensive to have stuff shipped across Bass Strait. Local Charcoal chicken uses 'Black Diamond Charcoal', they're willing to sell on - but at $40/small bag (spud bag size). He thinks selling on the charcoal will reveal their 'secret recipe' and wants to charge me accordingly. He's not Col. Saunders by any chance?

Just tried to make my own charcoal last night.. I made a roaster out of an old drum. I punched holes in the lid and base of the drum. I filled this with dry wood and sat it over a fire once jets off steam and smoke started to shoot out of the top holes in the lid I sealed them with sand. Alas I was too early and the wood was not fully charred. I will try again. Smokey business though.

Hey, for anyone in Perth I found this place on the yellow pages:
http://www.yellowpages.com.au/wa/beechboro/abr-charcoal-13654530-listing.html?context=businessTypeSearch&referredBy=www.yellowpages.com.au
It says they sell lump charcoal, can deliver, and sell to both residential and commercial customers.
The phone number listed is 0402 467 374. I haven't tried buying from them yet so I don't know if they are good, but I'm going to be checking them out for sure!

Hi there

Few months ago friend of mine recommended Etosha charcoal - hard wood charcoal & I went and bought a bag to try it and since then I only use this charcoal. It is the best one I used so far. I bought it directly from the whole seller in Mascot on Botany Rd but since then I saw Joe's BBQ & Ivan's butchery stock this charcoal. Highly recommend it to all

I have just sent an enquiry to Emberpak. Hopefully this stuff will be good!

I could not condone the import of charcoal from Indonesia - one only has to look at the destruction of rainforests to plant palm trees to understand why.
