Post by HannibalK1ng »

Hi,

very new to all this.

found this guide online.

does the time and temps seem about right or is there something else better to follow?

Thanks

Its a guide...about all you can say...Ambient conditions and each piece of meat cooking differently makes it just that!

Ok i will use it as a very rough guide thanks for that.

also another question regarding temperature.

If cooking a pork shoulder should there be a thermometer in it through the whole cooking process or just check it every so often?

also suggestions of a thermometer that would be good and fairly cheap?

You don't need a thermometer in it all the time - just every now and then to check the temp... but, having a thermometer with a probe in it all the time means you won't have to open the lid to check the temp - it is worth having.

You need to choose between - cheap and good...

Here's cheap and will do the job:

Here's our (smoke king bbqs) wireless remote thermo:

But, if you want good (well, very good!) - with dual probes, etc - I'd suggest the maverick from Chris:

I've tried cheap thermometers and had some success but long term, get yourself a good one like the Mav.
