Hey all.

Post by Ty1989 »

Good afternoon all.

Just wanted to introduce myself.

The name is Tyler.

I live on the Gold Coast in QLD.

Currently have a Kamado Dragon Charcol BBQ from BBQ Galore that is my learner.

I am looking to save for my next upgrade and am trying to choose the best option.

i love the idea of an offset smoker and i am willing to put in the time.

My concern is not the cost of the smoker it is the ongoing cost of fuel.

It seems very expensive if you use flavored wood.

Any recommendations would be great and what you think is the cheapest way to use one.

Cheers

Tyler.

Hi Tyler and welcome to the forum.

Yeah mate, you don't use flavour wood in an offset smoker, i think most use iron bark or redgum for the main fire...flavour wood would be lost with the robust woods.

Flavour wood is more at home with charcoal rather than a wood fire.

The only exception i could imagine is if you were near an orchard with endless supply of apple, cherry woods....now that'd be good.

Cheers
