I'm sure the Staff do what they can to try and stop spammers. Staff can't be here all the time and a spammer can make 20 new posts in 20 minutes.

What is it with this place, I'm on a dozen other forums and they don't have this problem.

Some sites run different software and have different joining policies. Also, it may depend on how many Staff they have. As this appears to be predominantly Australian, most of us are asleep by Midnight and then the Spammers come out to play. More Staff spread out over different hours of the night would help, but that isn't easy to organise. I know there was a discussion about it (stopping the spammers) elsewhere.
Perhaps manual signups is the only way to go.

Unfortunately (actually woohoo :) :) ) we rank no 1 for various BBQ searches and we may attract more spammers... We change the CAPTCHA every few days but are still having issues... The battle against spambots goes on...

I'm going to reply to this and I will also start a post around advertising.

This is allowed in certain sections of the forum... This forum is about BBQ-ing if you don't agree with certain brands and you have supporting "evidence" why a certain brand is not up to scratch make a reply post or write a review.
Just having a whinge because the brand is not "your" brand is not in the spirit of this forum...

I love my Webers and my Komodo Kamado (Rolls Royce of Kamado's! ) but I don't go bagging other brands. I appreciate that we can all be passionate about our way of BBQ-ing but post in a mature way!

Some of the suppliers are small start-ups and are using this forum (again in the appropriate sections) to help market their brands, there is nothing wrong with this. There is an issue if in every post they use it to push their product.
Some of the posters may not be very active but they are encouraged to do so...

OUR Forum ranks very high in Google by being OPEN if we start closing down because there are other BBQ's products we do not know about it is the start of the end of the forum!!!! Some of our most active posters advertise on this forum (through their signature and in posts) again this is legitimate,

The Aussie BBQ forum is a meeting place for ALL types of BBQ's types + BBQ gadgets + BBQ methods/styles :!: :!: :!:

Paul (forum founder)
PS Spambots are not allowed anytime anyhow

Paul,

love the forum...................love most of what happens here................sometimes, something slimes under the radar.........

i am not a brand boy, the latest bad call from me happened due to.........seeing something slithering in the corner, and i thought it needed to be poked.

i will somewhat back orf, but............

Don't back down Kev, as far as I'm concerned some people abuse a very generous privilege.

PaulR, perhaps some newer forum software i.e bring what you have up to date. More modern scripts help definately help.
