Weber Spirit Roast - To rack or not to rack?

Post by weberguy »

Hi all,

I've done many searches, but just can't seem to find the answer - not true - it's actually many conflicting answers!

I've purchased a Weber Spirit E-320 (still in the box waiting for me to assemble this weekend).

When googling 'roasting in a Weber', every video that I've come across are either using a Q or kettle, which all of them suggests roasting in a rack/trivet and foil/tray.

I've come across one video that demonstrates roasting in a Spirit (from Weber), and placing the meat and veges directly onto the grill.

But then some posts here suggests don't place the meat directly onto the grill to avoid char marks, etc.

How have you guys done roasts in your Spirit or Genesis?

I might end up trying both methods but just want to see what your take is on this.

Cheers,

Oh, and this is my first post here so be nice :D

Hi mate ... I would say with a rack & some alfoil (with holes poked in it) underneath the rack purely so you don't have to clean as much , thats how ive done it on my Weber Q ... so I imagine it would be the same as that for your Spirit.

But if all else fails, try both methods. Can't have to much meat 8)
I find your lack of smoke disturbing.

Yeah as Darth said,
Use alfoil with holes in it with a trivet on top. helps prevent burning of the meat on the bottom. Below is a pic with a roasting tray but you can do the same thing with a couple of sheets of alfoil with a line of holes around the edges and down the middle.

I personally cook my roast beef on my family Q over about 2-3 hours depending on the size.

We usually use a roasting tin with a roasting rack inside. Indirect.

If you don't have one already invest in a digital internal thermometer.

Must put BBQ on for a topside tonight. Right away!!!

Enjoy.
