Pit Boss K24 Kamado from Costco

Costco sells the Pit Boss K24 Kamado.

It is advertised as a 24 inch Kamado but the grill size is 20 inch. 24 inch Kamados such as the Big Joe and BGE XL have 24 inch main grills. Having a 20 inch main grill it has a similar main grill size to the Akorn which also has a 20 inch main grill. I raise this as people who have Akorns may think buying a Pit Boss will result in a much bigger main grill size.

It is sold without a deflector. A quick solution is to buy a $20 pizza pan and put it on the lower grill to act as deflector as it comes with a two 20 inch grills and cook on the top grill.

A popular mod is to bend the bottom door to the bottom vent to make it seal better and add gasket tape or sealant.

Thats a good comparison 12x7, so you think perhaps the pit Boss is the same unit as the grilla grill? Looks to be, I've seen these at Costco and actually thought they were a pretty good value grill for what you get with them.

They are very good value for a ceramic Kamado as Costco has been having them on special in the low $800 range which is cheaper than what you can buy it in the US.

In the US the Pit Boss brand is distributed by Dansons which also sells the same Kamado under it's Louisiana Grill brand.

They are all just another OEM Auplex kamado which we have seen sold in Australia as Bear Grills, Smoke KIngs, Chargriller Ceramic plus other no name brands on ebay.

You get what you pay for. Things like the glazing etc is not as good as a name brand, but they are half the price.

There are examples all throughout the many years of the forum of people doing great cooks on Auplex manufactured Kamados and this should be no different for this Kamado.

The criticism I have of this Kamado is that it is sold by Costco without a deflector and you cannot buy the deflector from Costco. This may not be much of a problem in the US but in Australia it is crazy as the shipping cost from the US is ridiculous, plus the high risk of breakage in transit. Luckily it is sold with two grills and it is easy to make a deflector to sit on the lower grill.

However, would say a deflector to fit this Komado be the same fit as perhaps one supplied by Smoke Kings or any of the other similar Komados on the Market in this country....could one possibly just buy one already in the country?
