Hey guys first post here.

Just got a Bunnings Acorn. The Bbq Galore one is on special for $399 so Bunnings has theirs for $389 at the moment.

However Bunnings acorn INCLUDES a ceramic heat deflector and a cover.

Also what's this a ceramic Char Griller Kamado just under $1000

Well now...that little post just "cost" me $389 and a wife rolling her eyes at me!
Been keeping my eyes on them ever since I saw them at my local Bunnings a month or so ago but wasn't willing to fork out the full $500, but at $389 and a tax return burning a hole in my pocket it was just too tempting to pass up. So the old kettle knockoff goes to the great bbq meetup in the sky and the Acorn takes it place.

for the new Akorn owners - they might have the same air leak as in the Dragon,
the slider of the bottom vent doesn't sit flush in its bracket, it is raised
about 2mm, possibly to allow for a PartyQ type temp controller.

one fix is on page 12 of this thread, but be careful when you take out the screw
to remove the slider - the metal is spring loaded so use thumb pressure to keep
bracket in place until the screw is removed (same when putting it back together),
otherwise you risk stripping the thread.

Just gave mine a first seasoning run, amazed at how well you can control the temperature. Loaded it up with a mix of Diggers (scrap from the bottom of the bag) and some Heatbeads, one firelighter on the top of the pile quite quickly had me at a stable 200C. For a giggle cranked the vents open and had 300C in notime, backed off quite fast when I closed things back up again.
Tiny bit of smoke escaping the lid seal where I had the probe going in but that's no great surprise.
All closed off now, temp is slowly dying off...resisting the temptation to crack the lid open to see if it will fully choke the fire.

Can't wait to run a first cook on it, fingers were itching to toss something in it but with the wife having spent the better part of the afternoon cooking up dutch peasoup she'd kill me

Hi Guys,
I have built a table this WE (from a old wooden bed)

I am wondering if any of you have managed to remove these black side table ( I ve tried Drilling, cutting with a renovator, no success with these hard stainless screws).Thank you

I presume you're talking about the part that is attached directly
to the shell i.e. the legs go into this - not the actual table - that
comes off easily.

just had a look at mine and it looks like you'd have to take out
the inner shell - removing the pop rivets - which would probably
break any seal where the inner is attached to the outer, then
between the two is a lot of insulation material (remove the
temp gauge to see what I mean) - and this probably won't go
back the same way if you take it out to get to the inner screws/bolts.

Yeah, I would like to avoid removing the inner shell, I am looking at a way to cut these weird nuts, there is not much space to cut the screws (and this stanless is a hard one).

School holidays are a great time to BBQ and buy a new BBQ and try out your cooks on the family.

You may be looking at this thread and wondering should I buy an Akorn?

On a major Kamado only forum they reckon 50% of the members own Akorns and the next most popular Kamado is Kamado Joe.

So there you have it. Another good reason to buy a new BBQ.

G'day Antinoz,
I'd say the site that 12x7 is referring to is Kamado Guru, https://www.kamadoguru.com/
All the best,
Steve
