Post by mrhvac »

Hi all

Anyone got feedback on the to different plates. I am thinking about purchasing the craycort one but am concerned it may be a abit of a pain when lighting and adding extra charcoal. Thanks

The standard Weber kettle grill is fine for most things. I would spend my money on something else like a smoke n sear, or buy an Akorn or Dragon Kamado forv$499.

I have both

The Craycort makes the weber top heavy,
so you have to be careful when moving it
I've only used it once or twice.

The weber gourmet system is very good,
the grate is a much thicker steel, and you
can have different inserts. A big plus is
a lot of items you're cooking will sit right
in the middle where the insert is - making
it very simple to clean - in the sink.
I used the weber quite often until I bought
my Dragon Kamado.

If you're just after something for steaks
and the like for great sear marks etc, you
can't go past GrillGrates - there's lots of
stuff on YouTube. Here's a link to the
Weber version

BBQ's galore sell GrillGrates now, but
not sure if they sell the one for the weber.

The Gourmet grill turns the Kettle into a great Wok system. Don' buy the Weber wok. Just get one from your local Chinese shop for $20.

As Michael Dunn has said, the Craycourt cast iron grill makes the Weber top heavy but on saying that, it grills magnificently. 4 Quarter grill panels lift out of you want to get to the fire and you get some really good grill marks on your steaks.
Probably the biggest minus for me is you can't use the charcoal chimney to light up coals without having to remove the entire grill ring.....so you need a charcoal lighting station like another Weber kettle or big heavy duty ring burner. Secondly, when they've gunked up a bit, and the fats go in between where the Quarters slip into the craycourt ring....they become a bit harder to remove.
I got one for sale for 50 bucks if anyone wants it...might need a scrub down to get some surface rust off it but it's as secure as..I just use the half cast iron grill section out of my Q320 nowadays...even if it does slide round a bit.
