How long will the forum last?

Will this forum be the last bbq forum standing from the bbq forum glory days?

The only old BBQ forum in Australia is the Weber forum. Which will be the winner?

Any bets?

It will be close - Weber has a strong loyal following.

This forum has lots of ads so it looks like it is self funding. Will money or loyal following win?

It'll still be up here until Google adds stop paying to host it. It must be paying heaps and be on automatic because Paul hasn't been on here in ages, getting close to a Year and hosting costs arn't cheap so I don't know the arrangement. I sent him the Forbidden sign i got and he said i have no idea. You know what... I think he has sold his platform with the revenue from the adverts and whoever has bought this forum has decided that he didn't want me in admin anymore....maybe it's just the platform and maybe it'll be that none of us can sign in anymore and the entire platform may be changed in the future and all posts and everything maybe be deleted or something.......I don't know, i'm guessing, just a conspiracy theory. Oh well whatever is happening, all things come to an end eventually.....maybe it's for the best.

Why sell the forum if you don't have to do anything to get paid for bots reading posts and generating dollars for no effort?

This is still alive. https://www.aussiebbq.info which I think was created in 2007??

Heck I don't know but Paul is not fussed on it......maybe he's passed it on to someone else as it earns revenue from adverts....but on saying that, I always thought those adds had to be clicked on to generate revenue, so if no-one is here, how do they make money?

All I know they have increasingly taken over to the point where it's painful even trying to view anything on here.

So next week I will sign out for good, then I'll delete this forum from my computer and my mobile hopefully never having to look at it anymore.

Thanks for coming here every now n then....but it'll be no point anymore. Even if the forum is still online....there'll be nobody manning anymore.

I was happy just to go in the backroom and get rid of the spammers joining up....but i can't do that anymore as I've been locked out....by who or what....no idea!!

The oldest aussiecue forum is still on pro boards. It was not used and was getting spam. I got rid of my log in because of that. Someone I’m saying proboards has got rid of the spam and the forum now read only no way of joining but with adds. So I recon the adds pay to preserve the content.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing was happening here. No one to except anyone or thing joining should be no spam. The adds pay for the content and probably some profit.

Good point.
It might not be a bad thing that the ads pay for the forum to be self sustaining as it has played a big part of Aussie BBQ history.
Many of the old forums I used to visit have gone to digital death.

Was just googling pellet grills and came across an old post here. I haven't used this forum in forever but used to spend a fair bit of time here. I guess Facebook groups killed off forums - it's great the FB groups are so active but there's so many repetitive posts which forums were great at preventing.

I still remember the old feuds here between Urbangriller and the Yoder guy. And Shayne (i think) who contributed so much before cracking the shits and deleting all his posts and leaving over something. I remember he did some interesting stuff with cold smoking by connecting his weber kettle to his GA. Still have someone's peri peri chicken recipe saved somewhere which blew me away when I first tried it.

I learnt a heap about bbq from this forum!

It’s nice to pop back here every now and then to look back in history.

Gumb is no longer a part of SF&F and UG has retired from bbq. Others have sadly passed away.

Big box movers have replaced the boutique bbq suppliers.

I think there’s no admins left on this forum and zombie bots talk to each other to generate ad money to keep the forum around.

Just popped in myself after a few weeks, I tried getting into the Admin again and it let me....go figure...don't know why i was forbidden before but still....I'm not going to to do any admin work....why for anyway because no-one give a flying Fk about this forum anymore, no-one was willing to help me rebuild it. Not much point letting in new people for nothing. there's over 20 in the waiting room atm lol.

So Gumb has pulled out of the SF&F? so now only 2 running it, other the other 2 still financing it or has it been left for the remaining 2 to continue to finance it? Perhaps it's the beginning of the end for there too eventually. I don't go there much these days but sometimes I'll pipe in. So has UG completely left it totally as well?

This will always be home to me but I think it could be beyond TLC these days.....shame, if only we could piss off these adverts but they are everywhere now. Paul hasn't been here in over a year, too busy galivanting around the world. the adds are probably paying for that too.

Gumb stopped posting in SF&F quite awhile ago. Then UG retired from bbq and all of a sudden his shop disappeared from the web. He later posted in SF&F his priorities had changed to look after his mum. Narm and Beachbums are still admins for SF&F.

Smokey’s forum had an IT problem and it was all lost. His priorities changed and I think a Perth butcher is running an earlier backup of that forum. There’s a post on SF&F with more explanation on what happened with his forum. A pity that forum is gone as it focused more on the food aspect of bbq and lots of great ways to cook and recipes.

The other two spin-off forums from this forum just dissappeared quite a few years ago, reason unknown.

SF&F has just added Google ads like this forum to fund its operations.

There are a lot of forums that aren’t with us any more. I read a lot that I didn’t contribute much to and a lot of them sunk without a trace. Seems the days of the forums are passing sadly.
Seems too we get a lot of single one time posters too. Ask a single question and leave. I suppose they have always been there but they seem to be the most common now.
Still I’m not tempted to do Facebook though and I read that many are tiring of the Facebook / twitter X and are waiting for the next big thing to come along.

I wonder how long untill members get sick of the adverts even though they understand the reason to allow them, I find the adverts more obtrusive on SF&F than I do here even though they are a PITA

Yeah I knew UG retired from everything BBQ which was quite a quick change but i understand that because some things in life can change very quickly. I knew Gumb was also on the verge of retirement and is probably caravaning somewhere playing Grey Nomad.

Apart from the infighting that happened here, one of the terrible things that happened to not only here but many forums is when Photobucket pulled their photo sharing service....I was very lucky when that happened because I got into my account and downloaded all my pics from that sight onto my Computer then onto an external HD then I sent them a message telling them to shove their site up their arse and called them all the names I could think of. I couldn't believe when they sent me an email asking me to come back and their 3rd party sharing had resumed (yeah with a huge Photobucket banner across every pic) and I just simple replied.....SHOVE IT!! Shane never pulled his photos, they were pulled by Photobucket but the timing was so much a co-incidence.

Only come in usually once a week here now just to see if anyone has written a post......that's about all. SF&F is pretty quite these days too......
