Re: OTG
Thanks guys. I might have a few practice runs on the stuffed bowl from the donor.
Re: OTG
How did you go with drilling through the enamel to fit the slide-aside?
I want to do this to one of mine (I have a trashed M/T donor with a rusted off leg socket)
I have contemplated it, but i'm worried that a small chip out of the enamel may become a large chip all too easily.

Re: Weber OTS with gas kit - question
I have a 5 year old who is a very fussy eater, but one thing she mows down is charcoal chicken done on the weber roti. Normally I do it over charcoal, and set it so a but of the drippings hit the coals, and it comes out awesome every time. But on a fire ban day, which we cop a lot in summer, I can't...

Re: 5kg Piglet
Yep I think my diy kettle roti Will be the go. Hopefully it can handle it Nath My DIY kettle roti recently did 2 boneless pork legs - both were 3kg, so that's a similar total weight. You just need to get the counterbalance pretty close. The 240V motor that drove them was one that Aldi sold just pri...

Re: Schweinshaxe
Found the time to upload them to photobucket: The skin only really crackled up in few places, but the rest of it was all crispy too - just thicker. Getting into the meat it was like cracking open an egg & removing the hard outer shell (skin). 5 year old came up with the "if you put the meat...

Re: Schweinshaxe
After Chris (UG) pointed me to this thread, I thought I'd have a go at them on my day off yesterday. I was going to use the GMG, but the neighbours spoiled it - they decided it was "sheets & towels" day, and in the interests of neighbourly relations, I didn't want to completely smoke o...

+1 for the Weber Q. Mine is the even older Q200. I'd like a Q2200 :) I originally got it as a convenience BBQ - something for a weeknight that's quicker than charcoal. I find myself using it more & more - far more than I ever imagined I would. It's just a great BBQ. The newer ones with the 2 pie...

Re: ALDI Pork Knuckle (Oktoberfest) and Special Buys
Went to Aldi tonight on the way home & got 3 knuckles. Any tips on temps & time in the GMG DC would be appreciated :) They still had a lot of leftovers from the pre-father's day promotion with the BBQ stuff - the thermometers, smoking chip box etc - and had 4 of the kettles, still ticketed a...

Re: Quickest way to light charcoal
...........What I found was if I put the chimney on top of the grid/grate over the burner, there is a huge gap between the flame and the charcoal/heat beads and it takes forever to get going. I took the grid off and put the chimney over the burner and it then only took a matter of 10 minutes. ........

Re: Quickest way to light charcoal
Heat beads do take longer - but not that long. I use the heat beads chimney on my wok burner, and it's about 10-15 minutes for stick charcoal, and 20-25 minutes tops for a full chimney of heatbeads - with a 50cm flame belting out the top! The trick is to only use the gas to get it going - probably 1...

Re: what's the going rate for wood/chunks?
Most orchards/farms are happy to give it away for free after pruning season, so bear that in mind, as this is essentially the same as what you are being offered.
I'd be suggesting that if you need to pay for it, a carton for a decent boot load, or $100 for a heaped box trailer.

Re: Pellets - best economical combo
I bought a couple of fire blankets a few months ago a Aldi, and I have cut them up and use them as insulation mats to drape over the GMG DC. It has 2 benefits - it keeps the heat in it longer, and also stops smoke leakage around the lid hinges. I found a dramatic drop in pellet consumption after doi...
